Prime Power

Prime power refers to a primary and continuous source of electrical power that serves as the main or principal energy supply for a particular location or facility. Unlike backup power, which is activated in response to an outage or emergency, prime power is intended to provide a steady and reliable source of electricity for an extended period, often on a continuous basis. Prime power systems are designed to meet the sustained energy needs of a facility, such as industrial plants, remote off-grid locations, or areas with unreliable grid infrastructure.

These systems are often more robust and enduring, capable of operating for long durations without interruption. Prime power sources may include generators, turbines, or other sources of energy that are integrated into the primary infrastructure to ensure a consistent and stable power supply. The resilience and reliability of prime power are critical for supporting ongoing operations in environments where a continuous and uninterrupted power supply is essential for various processes and activities.

Genplant's Value:

Genplant's prime power applications are diverse and cater to situations where a continuous and dependable power supply is paramount for sustained operations. The flexibility and reliability of prime power systems make them integral in supporting various industries and critical infrastructure needs.

Our Solutions

The genplant power stations have been developed by Genplant to provide a modular, scalable energy plant solution that can be fully operational within 12 months from confirmation of order.

genplant64 Energy Plant - Dual Fuel Primary Power & Cooling CHP System

  • Entirely grid independent.
  • Runs on pipeline gas and HVO or Diesel, and on pipeline gas pressure loss seamlessly transitions to onsite stored liquid fuel.
  • Uptime greater than four nines, producing both power and cooling 24/7.
  • Much more efficient than business as usual and earns a 30 to 50% federal tax credit.
  • Typical capacity of 76MW power + 12,000TR cooling - sized for net 64MW & 10,000TR plus redundancy.
  • Duplicate A & B sides, and each side has internal redundancy including redundant 13.8kV power feeds and 100% redundant 480V internal power.
  • Tier 4 compliant emissions treatment and monitoring.
  • Typical acoustics of 75dBA at 23ft under normal operation.
  • Height of 60ft with exhaust shroud extended to 100ft.
  • Width of 273ft and Depth of 77ft.

Dual Fuel Operation

  • The genplant50 produces 50 MW net power and 10,000 TR cooling with an uptime of 4 nines and 24/7 power and cooling.
  • has 20 gensets, and each of these gensets can operate independently of the other.
  • Each genset can switch between liquid fuel (e.g. HVO or diesel) and pipeline natural gas.  This switch-over can occur during operation and does not require the genset to be turned off for the switch-over.
  • The typical setup is one of pipeline gas as the primary fuel source, with the liquid fuel as the backup fuel source.  In the rare event when the gas pipeline loses pressure, the gensets transition over the liquid fuel.
  • Typically, 24-hours of full power backup liquid fuel are kept on site.  Should this level run low, more backup liquid fuel will be trucked in.
