Integrated Energy Plant

When a pharmaceutical company was seeking a more cost-effective, reliable source of electricity, chilled water and hot water for its Puerto Rico operations, it turned to Genplant to deliver an on-site energy solution.

Genplant's scope of work included delivering a turnkey project, overseeing the EPC agreement and delivery of the Energy Center Caguas - a fully modular energy plant that can deliver up to 3 MW of electricity (with provisions for an additional 500 kW) as well as up to 1,200 TR of chilled water and 3 MMBtus of hot water.

Designed to operate independently of Puerto Rico's electric grid, the complete facility included an LNG storage and regasification system to store and distribute natural gas.

The facility's CHP plant is also equipped with Genplant’s AWARE™ energy management software that provides continuous monitoring of the plant's operations, optimizing it for peak performance.

Results

By implementing Genplant’s on-site energy solution, our client achieved significant CAPEX savings as well as an expected OPEX savings of 59% compared to using grid-provided electricity and fuel for the facility's existing steam boilers.
